Tallahassee Polymer News for Week of June 25

July 2012 Meeting – Red, White, and Blue

Join the Guild on Sunday, July 1 for our monthly meeting. We’ll meet in the classroom of Michaels at 1 PM. Bring a cold drink, as none are available on-site. The theme for the meeting is Red, White, and Blue. Barbara will demonstrate using a clay extruder to make a star cane, wrapped in blue. You can combine this cane with a simple striped loaf of red and white to make some great patriotic-themed items like pins, beads, and more.

If you don’t have an extruder, Barbara will show how to form the star by hand.

What to bring: basic clay kit, a clay extruder with larger triangle and pentagon discs, red, white and blue clay (anything except Fimo Classic).

New Additions to the Guild Library

We’ve expanded our Library once again. Paid members are welcome to borrow these items on a monthly basis. See our library, Ellen, at the next meeting to borrow one of our books or DVDs.

Guest Teach Opportunities for March 2013

In advance of the IPCA Synergy3 Conference in Atlanta, we have an opportunity to bring a guest teacher to Tallahassee, Both Loretta Lam and Jana Roberts Benzon have expressed  an interest in teaching either a 2-day, or two 1-day classes over the weekend of March 9 and 10.

Barbara will be point person contact the teacher and work out the payment details. Seeing as Barbara is on the Synergy3 planning committee and a presenter, we would need someone else to handle schedule details, PR, registrations and participant communication via email.

If you are interested in either teacher and/or willing to assist with the planning, please contact Babara.

June Meeting Report

In June, member Cindy Suhweir showed the group how to make rolled beads using thin sheets of clay. We had a great time learning about this technique and made some wonderful beads. Barbara demonstrated the Sutton Slice technique during the meeting. Click on an image below to start a slideshow of the pictures.
