Just 10 days until we get chill with our clay (groan)! Feast your eyes on the demos from our two guest artists. That should make up for the bad pun. ;)

Ann Mitchell and Karen Mitchell of AnKara Designs

Ann Mitchell and Karen Mitchell’s demo is scheduled for Saturday 2/6 at 2 PM EST. The title of the demo is “Inspiration, Design, Construction”. Click an image below to view at full-size.

Supplies List

Materials

  • 4 two oz. blocks of clay, coordinating colors, conditioned and rolled into a sheet on the third thickest setting on the pasta machine
  • 1 bottle translucent liquid polymer clay
  • Water based polymer friendly varnish
  • Two colors of metallic leaf
  • Painter’s tape
  • Lined index cards
  • 9” x 12” piece of cardboard or thick envelope
  • Assorted mica powders and alcohol inks to tint liquid clay
  • 2” eye pins, or 20 gauge wire for making holes in clay beads
  • 8/0 seed beads
  • Beading cable
  • 2 crimp beads
  • 4 jump rings
  • 2 earring hooks
  • Lobster claw clasp

Tools

  • Pen or pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Four different small scale texture sheets
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire clippers
  • Crimp pliers
  • 4 small containers compatible for liquid clay, for mixing colors
  • Skewer or toothpick to mix pigments into liquid clay
  • Paper towels
  • Brush for varnish
  • Pasta machine
  • Work surface
  • Acrylic roller
  • Clay blade
  • Exacto or craft knife
  • Oven thermometer
  • Oven
  • Hot pads
  • Cornstarch and a brush as a texture sheet release (added Feb. 1)

Supplies List

  • Polymer Clay: white, bronze, brown, ecru, and black
  • Gold pigment
  • Tim Holtz Distress embossing powder in a gold tone (this product is discontinued, so don’t go looking for it). If you don’t have it, you will use some of the ecru to give color to the white clay.
  • Wire: the hook is 20 gauge and the wrapping 30 gauge
  • Liquid clay
  • Small kitchen or tea sieve, not too fine. Kind of like this one:
