October Meeting: Squiggly Beads

Our next meeting is taking place on Saturday, October 4.

On site setup starts at 9:30 AM, Zoom Opens at 1030, and Demo is at 11.

Please note location change – we will be meeting this month at Making Awesome not just on Zoom. There are few things to know:

  • Closed toed shoes must be worn
  • Pay attention to posted ‘no parking’ areas. If needed, unload your gear and move your car.
  • Barbara will be outside to let you in with the card key and direct you to the meeting area.
  • Coffee service will be available – bring your cup.
  • Bring lunch in a small cooler – the on site refrigerator is quite small.
  • Oven off at 2:30 and must be out by 3 PM
  • Other Making Awesome members will be on site at the same time.

Demo for October: Squiggly Beads

Diana L will lead our demo this month, showing us how to make these fun squiggly beads.

Here she is wearing them in Ostuni, Italy!

Supplies

  • One 2oz block of polymer clay. I used Sculpey Premo Ecru for these beads. For demonstration, I am using Sculpey Souffle in a similar color. You can use any color you want. I just wanted mine to have a more natural organic look.
  • Blade or craft knife
  • Pasta machine or roller to condition clay
  • Extruder
  • Cordless screwdriver with T-Slot attachment (optional) – this just makes it easier to extrude the clay instead of turning the T-Bar by hand.
    • Examples available on amazon. Be sure to match your screwdriver’s attachment size with the t-slot attachment.
    • If you don’t have a drill, these grips can make turning the extruder handle easier. Match the length of your handle to the inner length of the grip.
  • Round wood or metal rod for forming the beads, approximately 1/4″ diameter
  • 2mm -4mm leather cord or similar. The cord must be smaller than the ¼” bead opening (of course).
  • Cord ends
  • Jump rings
  • Whatever clasp you want to use
  • Flat nosed pliers
