Details for Next Week’s ‘Chili’ Clay Retreat

Hello clayers!

Next Saturday is our 7th Annual Chili Clay Retreat, and if you haven’t registered there is still time to do so. Use the link below and please register by Thursday, January 15 so that Ellen and Cindy order enough food for Sunday’s lunch.

What to Expect & Bring

For those of you that have never attended a polymer retreat, you’re in for a good time. There are no rules – bring projects to work on, new ideas to try, and your contribution toward’s the weekend’s meals.

We’ll have tables set up in Studio A and the Rec Room (if needed). We usually sit 2-3 per table and used the provided metal folding chairs at Lemoyne.

We Recommend

  • A 1″ thick small board or catalog to place under your pasta machine to make it easier to clamp it down to the work surface. That does, of course, mean that you need to remember your machine clamps and crank.  It doesn’t hurt to pick up a couple cheap C-clamps or bar clamps, just in case. You may be seated in the middle of the table, not at the end.
  • If you want to pad your tush, bring a cushion for the folding chairs OR a chair of your choosing.
  • Your general clay kit and supplies for the projects you want to work on during the event.
  • Your favorite beverage container(s) (for cold drinks and/or coffee).
  • A sweater or wrap in case the room is chilly.
  • Notepad and pen on which to take notes during the demos.
  • Camera (or just use your smartphone).

Demos

As of this writing, the scheduled demos are:

  • Ellen: Mokume Gane using metallic paints
  • Barb: Sanding and Buffing Tips

If you are interested in seeing a particular technique or giving a demo, please contact Ellen Rumsey Bellenot and Cindy Suhrweir.
