Polymer Clay Statement Necklace/Earrings
(This is my rendition of a demo done by 2 sisters, Judy Thomas & Rhonda Weisberg, that were members of the Greater Atlanta Polymer Clay Guild. They were kind enough to do this as a demo at one of our Atlanta Retreats several years ago.
Let’s build a simple cane and make the most of it!
SUPPLIES:
- Usual clay tool kit (pasta machine, work surface, blade, etc)
- Texture sheet – course grit sandpaper or fish filter will work well for this.
- TINY round cutter – like 1/8 inch, or even a needle tool or skewer will work (I will be using a needle tool and then a pen vise after baking)
- Clay: 3-4 colors that work well together. Here are some examples of the cane we will be making. Images will hopefully help you to choose colors. I hope you will try to have your skinner blend ready and other clay conditioned and/or sheeted so that you can clay-along.
- Really sharp/fresh blade for making cane slices. You can certainly use a LUCY Slicer and/or a Click-a-Slice if you have one.
- Your favorite earring findings and a couple of jump rings – or, make your own with 20 gauge wire.
- Cording – leather, waxed linen, satin “rat-tail” – whatever you prefer. I have used black, waxed-linen cord that I found at Walmart (my Michaels was out of stock ). You’ll want to have about 36inches of cording.
- Scissors
- Minimal jewelry tools – only if you have them! No need to buy (chain nose pliers, flush cutter, round nose pliers – or my favorite, the 3-in-1 jewelry tool)
- Super Glue
- OPTIONAL: Extruder
