Polymer Clay News for Week of September 24

October Meeting

Our meeting in October will take place on Sunday, October 7, time TBA. Ellen will lead us in a Autumn-themed mini class making polymer acorn charms. These can be made small enough to use as earrings or charm bracelet components or large enough to serve as a pendant.

Barbara will demo making wrapped loops using headpins. This can be a very secure connection for charms, pendants, and earrings.

Bring your basic clay kit and a small selection of clay colors. If desired, bring headpins, a flush cutter, and roundnose pliers.

Registration Open for Jana Roberts Benzon Two-Day Workshop

We are pleased to announce that registration is open for Jana Roberts Benzon‘s workshop here in Tallahassee. Jana is teaching her Laser Cut technique over the weekend of March 9 & 10, 2013.

Here are the details (please go through all pages so you don’t miss a thing!).

Member Survey Results

We’ve collated the responses and the majority of respondents like meeting on Sunday afternoons at Michaels. There was one vote for Saturday afternoon (only) and another for weeknights as an alternative.

One comment was to start the meeting later than 1 PM to accommodate church services and lunch. I’ll speak with Michaels to find out if this is an option and if so, we can move the meetings from 1 PM to 2 PM if members are in favor of the idea.

The interest between technique- and project-based meetings was split evenly. One member would very much like to use polymer for miniature food so that will definitely be a topic for an upcoming meeting. There are a couple of different miniature food books out there and it would be fun to whip up a batch of mini cupcakes or candy canes.

One response suggested we meet for a longer period of time and include topics that are related to polymer, but may not be polymer techniques. Topics such as kumihimo cord-making, jewelry finding construction and attachments, finishing work, photography, etc. were suggested. Please take a moment and weigh-in with any suggestions along this vein.
